How to Navigate the Updated Website
In order to regulate Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Health Care Aides (HCAs), the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) has updated its website to accommodate content for two distinct professions.
Why Is This Happening?
HCA regulation comes into force on February 2, 2026. At that time, the CLPNA will become the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) and regulate two distinct professions. The revised website accommodates resources and information for both HCAs and LPNs.
How Is the Website Structured?
The revised website consists of three sections:
- Webpages relevant to any website visitors: includes information about the CLPNA, complaints, and education approvals.
- LPN webpages: includes applicant and renewal information, the LPN Knowledge Hub, and LPN news.
- HCA webpages: includes draft applicant and renewal information, the HCA Knowledge Hub including draft documents, and HCA news.
When you first visit “CLPNA.com,” you will need to select “LPN” in order to view pages and documents for the profession. Users can navigate between the LPN and HCA sides of the website using the toggle on the sub-menu.
LPNs can access all of their information through the LPN side of the website.

Note that, when regulation comes into force, “CLPNA.com” will become “CLHA.com.” We will try to ensure that links do not break in this process. However, if you have any bookmarks or links to the CLPNA website, we recommend updating these after February 2 to ensure you can continue to access the information that you need.
How Can I Make Sure I’m Accessing LPN Information?
All LPN documents and web pages will use purple for headings, banners, etc. HCA documents and pages will use blue. You should be able to quickly identify whether specific information is relevant to you by looking at the colours used.
If a document uses both colours, it is relevant to both professions.

What Is on the HCA Side of the Website?
All information on the HCA side of the website is effective February 2, 2026. HCA webpages and documents exist to provide advanced notice to HCAs and other interested parties on regulatory requirements and processes. More information for HCAs will be added closer to regulation.
