Health Care Aide Regulation Information Available on CLPNA Website

The College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) has launched webpages for Health Care Aides (HCAs) in preparation for regulation.

All information on the HCA side of the website is effective February 2, 2026.

How to Navigate the Website

The website consists of three sections:

  • Webpages for any website visitors: includes information about the CLPNA, Council, Complaints, Education, and Research.
  • HCA webpages: includes draft applicant and renewal information, the HCA Knowledge Hub including draft documents, and HCA news.
  • LPN webpages: includes applicant and renewal information, the LPN Knowledge Hub, and LPN news.

When you first visit “CLPNA.com,” you will need to select “HCA” in order to view pages and documents for the profession. You can navigate between the LPN and HCA sides of the website using the toggle on the menu bar at the top of the page.

Information under the “Applicants” menu is for new applicants to the CLHA only. Those enrolled on the Directory immediately before February 2, 2026, will not need to reapply to the CLHA.

Draft Documents Available on the Knowledge Hub

Select documents are now available, in draft form, on the HCA Knowledge Hub.

These documents are presented for your information only. Some details may be changed before regulation. These documents do not come into effect until February 2, 2026.

Other Information for HCAs

As processes for HCAs are still being finalized, many webpages will be filled in on or before February 2, 2026. Important updates will continue to be shared through email.

How Can I Make Sure I’m Accessing HCA Information?

All HCA documents and web pages will use blue for headings, banners, etc. LPN documents and pages will use purple. You should be able to quickly identify whether specific information is relevant to you by looking at the colours used.

If a document uses both colours, it is relevant to both professions.
